The rating system used is as follows:
5 Melted Elephants: Mind-bogglingly
excellent. All that will remain of your elephant will be a bubbling grey
liquid.
4 Melted Elephants: Truly remarkable.
The eyes looking out from the seething mass which was your elephant will
alarm small children.
3 Melted Elephants: Interesting
and worthwhile. Your elephant's features will swirl as though the world
were the reflection in a glassy lake.
2 Melted Elephants: Has redeeming
features. Your elephant will be sticky to the touch.
1 Melted Elephant: Not up to
snuff. If you even attempt to test the consistency of your elephant it
may trample you or turn away in disgust.
Fractal
Cosmos : The Art of Mathematical Design
by Jeff Berkowitz
5 Melted Elephants
The computer has helped to clarify the tendency of order to arise from
chaos. This is the by far the most comprehensive book of fractal images.
Fractals
: The Patterns of Chaos : A New Aesthetic of Art, Science,
and
Nature
by John Briggs
4 Melted Elephants
Looks at nature as a field for fractal forms
Images
of Chaos
5 Melted Elephants
Video. It's not intuitively obvious that color cycling should make
fractals so much more beautiful.
Fractal
Lumination
5 Melted Elephants
Another excellent video of color-cycling fractals.
The
Fractal Experience
3 Melted Elephants
For the fanatic who simply must have more fractal video!
Chaos
: Making a New Science
by James Gleick
3 Melted Elephants
A good readable text for the layman describing mathematical concepts
of chaos, including chaotic attractors and fractals.
Computers
and the Imagination : Visual Adventures Beyond the Edge
by Clifford A. Pickover
4 Melted Elephants
A remarkable book full of interesting mathematical oddities and excursions
which can only be fully appreciated by those with some math knowledge;
but chock full of extraordinary images which make this recommended for
anyone with an interest in fractals and an appreciation of mathematical
forms.

5 Melted Elephants
An amazing video of abstract computer art

4 Melted Elephants
Another largely abstract video of computer-generated imagery, this
time by Jon McCormack
All the following videos in this section are anthologies
of widely varying styles of mostly computer-generated or processed imagery,
containing a large proportion of abstract and algorithmic-influenced imagery,
set to rave music.

Visual
Illusions in Motion With Moire Screens : 60 Platterns and 3 Plastic Screens
(Pictorial Archive Series)
by Craig Cassin
5 Melted Elephants
Move the large plastic screens over the full-page geometric patterns
to generate fantastic moire patterns.
Optical
Designs in Motion : With Moire Overlays by Carol Belanger. Grafton
4 Melted Elephants
Similar to the above book except that the geometric patterns are each
quarter page.
In the following two books for children, moving plastic
sheets over images in the pages creates moire patterns which create illusions
of motion.
Magic

by Co. Bliss, Sands &. Co Staff Bliss
2 Melted Elephants
Magic
Moving Alphabet
by Frank Moore
2 Melted Elephants
These two books of op art and patterns can
also be exprimented with using the moire pattern screens from any of the
above books.

by Gabriele Grunebaum
4 Melted Elephants
Includes some extraordinary photographs somewhat reminiscent of some
computer-generated algorithmic imagery
Order

by Keith Critchlow
3 Melted Elephants
This unique book is full of diagrams and analysis of regular 3-dimensional
forms
Arabic
Geometrical Pattern and Design (Dover Pictorial Archive Series)
by Jules Bourgoin
4 Melted Elephants
Supposedly invigorated by an Islamic prohibition on the artistic depiction
of figures, the Arabic world developed a mastery of geometric pattern design
to an amazing degree, well illustrated here.
Fun

Knot Work and Magic With String and Rope.
by Joseph Leeming, Charles E. Pont (Illustrator)
3 Melted Elephants
Some intersting topology
New
Territories : The Computer Visions of Jurgen Ziewe
by Nigel Suckling, Jurgen Ziewe
4 Melted Elephants
This artist creates detailed computer art including figures and fantastic
landscapes but is included here due to a heavy use of fractals and algorithmic
forms in image mapping.
Music
of Xenakis
5 Melted Elephants
Specializing into mathematics transformed into sound.
