Visualizing Space

In collaboration with other makers, I worked on a data-based multimedia installation focused on space. In an effort to make the entire experience more cohesive, each group was responsible for a time-period specific project.

My group’s contribution to the installation was focused on how people today view humanity’s future interactions with space. By utilizing clips from space-themed cartoons and a short survey, we were able to create on-the-fly visualizations based on the user’s personal view of the future. In addition, as our data pool grew, we were able to display the optimism of our participants as a whole.

The aesthetic of our physical setup was reminiscent of an old film projector. We incorporated older technology as a standard, to prevent any modern or sleek devices from influencing the user’s view of the future during the survey.

This installation lasted eight hours on University of Colorado Boulder’s campus.
