Bautista helped the Conehead win 94 games and the Ruth Division pennant. ******************************************************************* 1st Runner Up - Ryan Helsley, Brookfield Brouhaha Age ERA OPS W L S G GS CG SHO INN H R ER BB K HR GDP 28 1.77 .588 3 1 26 37 0 0 0 40.2 25 8 8 20 57 3 1 Helsley had a very brief season for the Brouhaha, burning out at the all-star break. But when he was on, he was on. Helsley saved 26 games (4th best in the league) with a 1.77 ERA and a .588 OPS in just 40 2/3 innings of work. His 96.3% save percentage was best in the majors. Brookfield won 109 games and the Ruth Division pennant on some strong pitching. Had Helsley had a bit more stamina he would have likely been a runaway winner in this category. ******************************************************************* 2023 CFOD Fireman of the Year Award - Griffin Jax, San Mateo Thunder Age ERA OPS W L S G GS CG SHO INN H R ER BB K HR GDP 28 1.49 .584 4 3 36 59 0 0 0 66.1 58 14 11 19 75 4 2 While the Thunder may have won only 86 games, it certainly wasn't the fault of closer Griffin Jax. Jax's 36 saves were league best, and posted a 1.49 ERA and a 0.584 OPS. Jax's 90% save percentage was 4th best in the majors. Does a closer on a team that doesn't make the playoffs and have a sub .500 win percentage of 1 run games typically win this award? Certainly not! But it was a strange year of part time closers and other closers only getting a major role after a trade - and Jax is the only pitcher this year to record over 30 saves.
