Michael Theroux has produced a 30-minute cassette of various plants
hooked up to electrodes and stimulated [pictured above],with the output
converted to sound. Click the photo to go to his site for ordering. He
has an mp3 sample on his page that is often down, but the sample below
was working as of 6/8/99.
Here's
realaudio plants turning their output to sound.
An interesting book tracing the history of monkey art with analysis
that doesn't seem all that unreal and 69 photos, mostly of chimp art, 15
in color. You can buy the book by clicking
here
Click the picture to go to the Why Cats Paint website which currently
has paintings not in the book, movie clips of cats painting[!], and related
items. Unfortunately the book's text is totally bogus and instead of providing
real information is just a not-very-interesting satire of art criticism.
Thus it's unclear whether all the photos of cat art are authentic [as they
do seem to me] or if some are merely part of the authors' satire. Please
e-mail
me if you have more info and I'll update or remove this item. To buy
the book click here
Click
on the picture to visit a gallery of First Grader art.[Updated with a new
class 9/4/99]
Click the image to visit the Refrigerator Art site, with weekly postings
of kids art [in a contest you can have kids submit to or comment on] and
a Hall of Fame gallery.
You can visit a gallery of computer and traditional media art done
by a girl over her life ages 3 to 6 by clicking here.
The most wonderful writing by children I've read are in the three anthologies
by Richard Lewis: "There Are Two Lives", "Miracles", and "Journeys". They
are all out of print. One fascinating book which remains in print is Kenneth
Koch's "Wishes, Lies, and Dreams". Here's a short excerpt by primary schooler
Andrea Dockery:
I used to be a fish
But now I am a nurse...
You can buy the book by clicking here
Unfortunately most of the wealth of children's .art, fiction, and poetry
on the web and in print seems to be chosen for how closely it emulates
the productions of adults. If you're aware of sites which give space to
the marvelous and truly child-like work of children, please e-mail
me.
Click the picture to visit the Stone Pages, a guide to European megaliths,
with lots of pictures and info.
Click on the picture to go to the Rock Art website which can lead you
to many photos and all sorts of info [try clicking Tracce or "links" in
the top navigation bar once there]. Unfortunately the only cave art books
I'm familiar with enough to recommend are out of print.
Where possible each image in the galleries links to the artist's web site
[which hosts the image] and within which may be found online galleries
to the artist's work and if available access to purchase of original art,
high quality prints, books, software, and/or information .If links to direct
purchase of books by the artist are indicated on my page they are through
amazon.com online. If I can't locate an appropriate official web site to
link to/with, I represent the artist with a low-res scan or image
of the book cover. The image copyrights are retained by their creators
