Hedgehogs

We know we are frequently visited by hedgehogs, both in the garden and in the meadow, as the droppings they leave behind are quite distinctive - as is the snuffling sound they make when foraging at night. We are thus very careful to look out for them before disturbing wood-piles or other sources of cover and hibernation space.
Because they are essentially nocturnal, actual sightings of hedgehogs are less common and as they can move surprisingly quickly they don't exactly hang around to have their portrait taken!
