Muntjac deer are often seen, strolling along the paths or resting in the shade. Judging from the piles of droppings we find, they range all over the meadow. It's usually just a solitary female (as here) but sometimes a male & female pair or a female plus fawn. They are quite nervous though, so don't tend to pose for photos!

Males do occasionally wander through, distinguished by their antlers. These are quite small and can easily be missed, but the much stockier build of the males is distinctive: compare the middle picture with that on the right. Muntjac don't do much damage as they mainly browse on grass and shoots, but we do have to protect young saplings
But it's not just the meadow that they wander round. The images were taken out of my kitchen window when I noticed a female happily grazing in the back garden!
