Another season is in the bag. The Fish won their 2nd to last game, clinching the last league wildcard spot, their first post-season appearance in 8 years. The Somerville Sluggers and Oregon Wet Sox battled to a tie at 93 wins each, but since the Sluggers won their season series 7-5, they clinch the MK conference wildcard while the Oregon Wet Sox win the 1st league wildcard. Mark McGwire hit a solo homer on the last day of the season, giving him 76 homers for the season and sets a new season homer record, previous set by McGwire in '97. McGwire also captured the season record for RBI's with 178. The Syndicate's Roberto Alomar had a monsterous season, obliterating the old runs scored record with 178. The Syndicate also rewrote the team batting records, setting new records in no less than *6* categories, including batting average, on base average, slugging average (by more than 46 points), runs scored (by more than 100, hits and RBI. The mighty Zippys barely missed out on the playoffs, but go home with the new season record for team doubles (which they also hold the season low mark set 4 years ago). The Boston Brewins made a playoff push in mid-season, but they'll have to be content with a new league record for fewest fielding errors with 77. The Road Warriors were packed with sluggers at almost every position in 1999, which lead to a new single season homer record with 314 dingers. With many batting records set, it was inevitable that several low water marks would be set in pitching. The San Diego Termites set a new league record for worst team ERA with a 5.98 average, the Squids set a new league record for most walks allowed, and the San Francisco Shriners set a new league record for fewest complete games with a big zilch.
