The exceptions are at first base, where Mark McGwire retained his rightful place as #1 1B in the league, and at SS where Alex Rodriguez simply put up a 40 homer/40 stolen base season. Ray Lankford is the overall "value" player, with 45 homers, 140 runs scored and 132 RBI. One of the Termites' "power trio", Albert Belle gets 1st OF honors, as does the Brewins' Greg Vaughn, who led the league in homers this year with 60. Kevin Brown was far and away the best all-around starter this year, earning Cy Young honors. Rob Nen saved 40 games and was fireman of the year. Moshers and Termites aces Greg Maddux and David Wells made obligatory appearances, as did ace pitcher Pedro Martinez of the Climbers. The Zippys had their best season ever in '98, and part of that was due to Jamie Moyer, who won 18 en route to 1st team honors. 2ND ALL-CFOD TEAM NAME PS TEAM AVG OBP SBSLG VAL AB H 2B 3B HR R RBI SB CS Palmeiro 1B Syndicate 0.309 0.383 0.586 27.9 640 198 39 3 40 132 144 17 5 rDeShields 2B Moshers 0.323 0.400 0.536 16.4 474 153 15 12 10 104 58 45 13 Garciap'ra SS Wet Sox 0.306 0.344 0.558 23.2 683 209 38 7 37 105 132 12 3 Jones,C 3B Dogs 0.342 0.453 0.604 26.7 591 202 42 6 28 122 123 21 4 Lopez C Piazzas 0.274 0.317 0.563 19.3 547 150 18 0 45 81 121 8 3 Green CF Syndicate 0.312 0.374 0.618 27.0 641 200 32 6 41 108 154 41 12 Sosa OF Shriners 0.291 0.354 0.583 26.7 683 199 19 2 58 117 151 8 6 Griffey OF Whaleheads 0.269 0.336 0.604 25.0 662 178 29 9 54 125 125 18 5 NAME PS Team ERA VAL WHIP W L S G GS IP H ER BB K Mussina SP Wet Sox 3.56 26.58 1.12 18 8 0 33 33 237.2 217 94 49 178 Moehler SP Zippys 3.08 24.87 1.26 17 8 0 34 34 216.0 215 74 57 117 cClemens SP SEA/HIL 3.31 24.85 1.19 14 12 0 37 37 247.1 192 91 103297 Wakefield SP Sluggers 3.70 24.69 1.16 17 9 0 35 35 226.0 192 93 71 149 Cone SP Moshers 3.52 24.65 1.28 17 10 0 35 35 230.1 223 90 71 224 rGordon RP Whaleheads 2.57 26.23 1.15 8 7 24 68 0 84.0 64 24 33 65 cWetteland RP SOM/CHA 2.04 25.57 1.09 5 6 28 54 0 57.1 49 13 13 75 Mantei RP Thunder 3.34 25.30 1.35 6 5 29 56 0 59.1 55 22 25 67 Dipoto RP Termites 3.58 24.40 1.37 7 7 25 76 0 78.0 65 31 42 44 Urbina RP Sioux 3.39 24.39 1.13 4 9 28 56 0 69.0 48 26 30 85 NOTES: The great Coors field experiment has started for the Syndicate, and as a partial result 1B Rafael Palmeiro and 40 HR/40 SB CF Shawn Green earned 2nd all-CFOD honors. Sammy Sosa won this year's Cy Young award, but on a raw-stats basis he could only make 2nd team honors. The Dogs failed to place any sluggers on the all-star team this year, but 3B Chipper Jones had a stellar 2nd half to give him 2nd team 3B honors. The Moshers put two more starters on the all-CFOD team, mid-season acquisition Roger Clemens and David Cone. Wet Sox staff ace Mike Mussina and Zippys starter Brian Moehler also make the team.
