CFOD 1994 PLAYOFFS 1ST ROUND RESERVOIR DOGS vs. CINCINNATI KINGS PREVIEW: The Reservoir Dogs have had much success as an expansion team. In their second year in the league the Dogs managed to capture the Mantle division title over the rival Syndicate and Towers. The Dog's success was a team effort, with only one person (Tony Phillips) having more than 100 runs or RBI. But the Dogs ended up tied for first in the league with runs scored. The Kings decided to make the playoff run before the season started, making several key moves to bolster their lineup. It was certainly a good gamble. It was primarily a team effort on offense with the Kings as well. Fred McGriff had a typically monster year, but they got good performances from catcher Sandy Alomar and the 1st half/2nd half duo of Juan Samuel and Jeffrey Hammonds. The Dogs scored more runs than the Kings, but the Kings had a lower ERA. The Kings narrowly won the regular season series against the Dogs 5-4. ********************************************************************* GAME ONE -- At Dogs. Game one proved to be a good matchup for each team. The Dogs scored the first run of the post season in the first inning when Baines scored Greer from 3rd. The Dogs struck again in the 2nd with a John Valentin tater off Kings' starter Mike Mussina to make it 2-0 Dogs. The Kings came back in the top of the 3rd, when Grebeck singled in Carr. Later in the inning Sandy Alomar singled in Spike Owen to even it up at 2 each. In the bottom of the 5th, the Dogs took the lead once more on an RBI single by Greer. In the top of the 6th, Fred McGriff doubled in Alomar to even it up at 3, and the Kings then took the lead on a Hollins RBI double. A pinch hit homer by Eusebio in the top of the 9th add an insurance run for the Kings who went on to win game #1 by a score of 5-3. KINGS LEAD 1-0.
