In the opening game of this best of 3 series, the Rock wasted no time scoring, as in the top of the 1st inning Starling Marte hit a leadoff single, moved to 2nd on a 2 out single from Rafael Devers and scored on a base hit from Seth Brown. In the bottom of the inning, with a runner at first and 2 outs on the board, Byron Buxton tripled, tying the game up at 1. Albert Pujols followed up with a 2-run blast. 3-1 Arthropods after 1. Arlington added to their lead in the 5th with a 2-run home run from Mike Trout. The Rock cut the lead to 2 in the 6th inning with a 2-RBI double from Travis d'Arnaud, but Mike Trout added more insurance runs in the 7th with another 2-run home run. In the top of the 2nd, Kevin Gausman ran into trouble, loading the bases with 1 out. Gerrit Cole singled, scoring 2 runners to put Cincinnati up 2-0. In the 4th inning, with 2 on and 1 out, Cole came through again, grounding out to 2nd but allowing a runner to score. With 2 outs, Gausman balked, scoring another Cincinnati run. 4-0 Rock after 4. Gerrit Cole was solid, throwing a shutout through 8 2/3 innings. Only a 9th inning, 2 out solo home run from Byron Buxton spoiled the scoreless day for the Arthropods, and Hector Neris came on in relief to score the final out. Cole did it on the mound, throwing 8 2/3 innings, and went 1 for 4 with 3 RBI as the Rock defeat the Arthropods 4-1 to take the round 0 series. They advance to round 1 where they will face the Pig's Eye Pirates.
