Trout's 148.6 runs created was best in the majors. So why not hand Trout the hardware this year? Well, mainly because the Arthropods lost 92 games and finished in the cellar of the Mantle division. There's always next year when Trout enters his magic "age 27" season. ----------------------------------- 2018 CFOD MVP - Christian Yelich, Pig's Eye Pirates Name Team P Age AVG OBP SPC AB H 2B 3B HR R RBI HBP BB K SB CS Christian Yelich* PEP lf 26 .298 .384 .562 650 194 33 6 42 137 110 7 85 156 25 3 The Pirates posted a tied-for-league-best 99 wins and the Koufax division title in 2018. While several Pirates players certainly helped, Yelich was the major contributor on offense. Yelich finished with 194 hits (7th best), 137 runs scored (2nd best), 110 RBI (6th best), and 42 home runs (6th best). Yelich's 25 stolen bases (against only 3 caught stealing!) was just out of the top 10, but his 89.3% steal percentage was 2nd best in the league. His 143.3 runs created was 2nd best in the league, and he topped out in total bases with 365. Yelich did a "lot of bit" of everything in 2018 for the Koufax winning Pirates and gets the nod for 2018 CFOD MVP. ******************************************************************* 2018 CFOD CY YOUNG AWARD 1st runner up - Miles Mikoas, San Diego Termites/Lakeview Zeros Name Team P Age ERA OPS W L S G GS CG SHO INN H R ER BB K HR GDP Miles Mikolas sp 29 2.89 .653 20 9 0 34 34 3 0 242.2 229 85 78 37 173 20 28 Mikolas was humming along for the last place Lakeview Zeros before getting traded to the Termites for a last minute playoff push. Among relievers with at least 45 innings pitched (132 candidates, again), Diaz sported the 2nd best ERA and 3rd best OPS against. Diaz's 93.3% save percentage was 2nd best in the league, and the 56 games that Diaz finished was most in the majors. Diaz closed for a scrappy Paxtang team, who won 87 games and the Ruth/Young Conference Wildcard, finishing a game ahead of 3 other teams for the honor. Among those 4 teams the Pitbulls actually had the worst overall run differential. Paxtang reached the post-season thanks to their excellent close game performance, going 32-20 in 1 run games, 7-2 in extra innings and 11-5 when tied after 7 innings -- and a lot of that was due to the steller performance by Diaz.
