2018 ALL-CFOD Teams Below are the 1st and 2nd All-CFOD teams for the 2018 year. Players were selected according to the following formulas: BATVAL = 0.078*(RUNS+RBI)+(AB+BB)*(OBA+SBSLG-0.728)*0.109 STARTPITVAL = ((WINS+SAVES)/1.04+IP/7.65*((LN(4.10/ERA)+LN(0.728/OPS)))) RELPITVAL = ((WINS+SAVES)/1.77+IP/5.57*((LN(4.10/ERA)+LN(0.728/OPS)))) For hitters: SBSLG is slugging percentage with net steals (SB - 2*CS) factored in. The 2*CS comes from the general consensus that a player needs to steal 2 bases for every caught stealing if they're going to be effective at it. The weighting factors for sabermetric and rotisserie (runs, RBI) contributions were calculated by first setting them at their starting values (0.09 for each), then running a regression so that the sum values for the top 10 players based on initial values had equal contributions from the sabermetric and rotisserie stats. Hitters only qualified at the position where they've played the most this season, with centerfielders also qualifying in the left/right field positions if they had enough value. For pitchers: The weighting factors for more team oriented stats (wins, saves) and more individual factors (ERA, OPS against) were set to their initial values (For wins/saves: Starters at 1.2, relievers at 1.6, for individual factors: 1/10 for starters, 1/5 for relievers). I know that ERA and OPS are also influenced by fielding and park effects, but the stats are easier to understand and represent better "uneducated media awareness of success" than something like xFIP, even though they are probably somewhat correlated. A regression was also run on the top 10 starters and relievers rated by the initial value such that each group had equal contributions to team oriented stats and individual stats, *and* that the average total values of starters and relievers from each top 10 were equal to the top 10 for hitters. Starting pitchers are those that have at least half of their game appearances as game starts, while relievers are those that do not have at least half of their appearances as game starts.
