Here's the sample profile. Please try to get your managerial profiles in early (opening day is March 28, 2005). If I don't get a managerial profile by then (or if I get 20 profiles on Sunday), some people may have the computer managing for them for awhile while I enter in lists. **************************************************************************** PITCHING: You may have three different modes of "Usage" for pitching: Strict, Time, or Skip. Strict will just play your pitchers in the order that you list them under starters. Skip is like Strict, except that if you have a rest day then it will play your 1st starter earlier. Time proportionally doles out the starts to all of your starters on the roster based upon how many real life starts they have (it effectively chucks your starting rotation out the window). You must list a minimum of 4 starters, and even then, it's probably a better idea to go with 5 to prevent early burnout. If you use "Strict" or "Skip" (but *NOT* "Time"), you may use spot starters. Spot starters will start a certain percentage of the time (specified by you) in place of the regular starter. Since the "Time" usage doesn't really use the starting pitching profile, using spot starters won't help. Also note, you are limited to one spot starter per "regular" starter, and you must specify a percentage you wish to spot start them (otherwise, it's going to be 0%, and it's just as if you never specified a starter in the first place). People who have a durability rating for starters may start. People who have a durability rating for relievers may relieve. People who have durability ratings for both may do both. Note: In the regular season, players of any IP may be mentioned in the profile. There is no minimum IP for the regular season (but there is the 110% usage rule). For relievers, you should specify your closers vs left or right, setup men vs left or right, and your long & mopup starters. You may list up to 5 people for each of these spots, and you put players in multiple slots (although you can't list them twice in the same spot). Since we don't have minimum IP or batters faced requirements for mention in the profile during the regular season (other than the minimum 75 batters faced to be on the active roster), this could potentially lead to teams burning out large numbers of their players early who didn't have many IP to begin with. I ask that you try to pace your players so that this doesn't happen. **************************************************************************** Manager Profile for 2004 Seattle Moshers Pitching Chart Usage mode: Skip Rotation size: 5 Next starter: 1 Starting Rotation Sabathia Marquis Maddux Rusch Ramirez Spot Starters Davis Parrish Bauer Spot Pct 10 35 40 Mopup situations Julio Davis Long relievers Meadows Setup vs LHB Kline Williamson Setup vs RHB Mercker Williamson Closers vs LHB Foulke Kline Closers vs RHB Foulke Mercker .................................................................................................... ***************************************************************************** Batting lineups: You will need to submit lineups for both LHP & RHP. Since this a non-DH league, the 9th batting slot will be reserved for the pitcher. ***************************************************************************** Manager Profile for 2004 Seattle Moshers Depth Chart for 2004 Seattle Moshers -- vs LHP Usage: Game by game Versus: Left DH: No Starting Lineup 1: Kotsay cf 2: Young,M ss 3: Byrnes lf 4: Olivo c 5: Merloni 3b 6: Ordonez rf 7: Infante 2b 8: Ortiz 1b 9: ************************************************************************* DEPTH CHART: For the depth chart, need to have at least 1 utility player for every position. You may also mention platoon players (those that come in when a reliever of the opposite handedness does) and defensive players (those that come in the late innings of close games). The way you can distribute playing time is by letting the utility players start a certain %age of the games. You can monitor this by either of two ways: Trackstarts or game by game. Trackstarts looks at the season as a whole, and tries to distribute playing time so that at the end of the season the playing time has been distributed %age-wise according to the diagram. Game by game randomly determines who starts the games without regards to past performances. Here a utility player with a 20% start rate has a 20% chance of starting that game. You can also have up to 5 pinch hitters for each side. There are pinch hitters for LHP and pinch hitters for RHP for each side of the depth chart. The DMB manual doesn't really explain why they have these redundant PH profiles, but I'd recommend just putting the same guys as PH vs RHP on both sides, and do the same for PH vs LHP. There is no minimum PA that you need to be mentioned in the profile (besides the 35 PA minimum to be on the active roster). But remember that there is a 110% total plate apparance limit, and a 200% plate apperance limit for each side. Try not to burn people out early. ************************************************************************** ----- Catcher ----- --- First Base ---- --- Second Base --- --- Third Base ---- Start Olivo Ortiz Infante Merloni Plat Santiago Koskie Def Quintero Ventura Infante Merloni Util1 Melhuse 0 Ventura 0 Wigginton 0 Koskie 0 Util2 Util3 Util4 Util5 ---- Shortstop ---- --- Left Field ---- -- Center Field --- --- Right Field --- Start Young,M Byrnes Kotsay Ordonez Plat Young Def Izturis Raines Util1 Izturis 0 Sweeney 0 Raines 0 Sweeney 0 Util2 Util3 Util4 Util5 Designated Hitter ---- PH vs LHP ---- ---- PH vs RHP ---- Start Plat Def Util1 Wigginton Sweeney Util2 Young Wigginton Util3 Young Util4 Util5 .................................................................................................... Setting everything to neutral will pretty must just use your team to its abilities (IE-if you have a guy who steals a lot of bases, he still will steal a lot of bases). These set the aggressiveness or passiveness of your team on certain issues. PH stands for "pinch hitter". ***************************************************************************** Manager Tendencies Bunting for a hit: Neutral Sacrifice bunting: Neutral Squeeze bunting: Neutral Hit and run: Neutral Stealing: Neutral Running: Neutral Taking pitches: Neutral PH for a pitcher: More frequent PH for a non-pitcher: More frequent PH for platoon player: More frequent PH in a blowout: Neutral Pitching around: Neutral Intentional walk: Neutral Pickoff throws: Neutral Pitching out: Neutral Using relievers: Neutral Using closers: Neutral Holding runners: Neutral Infield in: Neutral Guard lines: Neutral ************************************************************************** PLAYER SPECIFIC TENDENCIES: A lot of people would like to do use this, but the time implications of entering in all of these preferences is too daunting at the moment. However, note that even if it is set for "Yes", it won't always happen. I can almost guarantee that Albert Pujols will never be pinch-hit for. **ALSO NOTE** You don't have to include the actual numbers below. DMB automatically does this. You only have to worry about this section if you want to change their status from being able to be pinch hit for to not being able to be pinch hit for. ********************************************************************** Playing Time Limits Maximum Atbats Player vsLHP vsRHP Starts Relief App Bauer 0 0 2 21 Byrnes 0 0 0 0 Claussen 0 0 14 0 Davis 0 0 19 7 Foulke 0 0 0 0 Infante 188 315 0 0 Izturis 18 89 0 0 Julio 0 0 0 65 Kline 0 0 0 67 Koskie 0 0 0 0 Kotsay 0 0 0 0 Maddux 0 0 0 0 Marquis 0 0 0 0 Meadows 0 0 0 68 Melhuse 0 0 0 0 Mercker 0 0 0 0 Merloni 113 77 0 0 Olivo 87 214 0 0 Ordonez 0 0 0 0 Ortiz 0 0 0 0 Parrish 0 0 1 55 Quintero 25 47 0 0 Raines 52 42 0 0 Ramirez 0 0 0 0 Rusch 0 0 16 16 Sabathia 0 0 0 0 Santiago 0 0 0 0 Sweeney 9 168 0 0 Ventura 7 145 0 0 Wigginton 0 0 0 0 Williamson 0 0 0 28 Young 137 252 0 0 Young,M 0 0 0 0
