2003 CFOD All-Star Teams Below are the teams for the 2003 CFOD all-star game, to be held at PNC Park, home of the Angry Candy, the team with the best record at the break. Players were selected according to the following formulas: BATVAL = 0.09*(RUNS+RBI)+(AB+BB)*(OBA+SBSLG-0.766)*0.09 STARTPITVAL = ((WINS+SAVES)/1.2+IP/10*((LN(4.35/ERA)+LN(1.386/WHIP)))) RELPITVAL = ((WINS+SAVES)/1.6+IP/5*((LN(4.35/ERA)+LN(1.386/WHIP)))) Where SBSLG is slugging percentage with net steals factored in, WHIP is (walks + hits)/IP, and LN is the natural log of the function. Starters are those that have at least half of their game appearances as game starts, while relievers are those that do not have at least half of their appearances as game starts. Hitters only qualified at the position where they've played the most this season, with centerfields also qualifying in the left/right field positions if they had enough value. In general the formulas were balanced such that the best hitters/starters/relievers had an equal contribution from runs/RBI's/wins/saves as from their sabrmatic-esque stats. The Syndicate's Barry Bonds once again leads the division (and the league) in overall hitter value. Candy 1B Todd Helton is not far behind, hitting close to .400 and 85 runs scored, the league lead. Boston's Javy Lopez is having a career year, easily leading the league in RBI with 104. The Arthropods place 2/3'rds of their outfield on the all-star team. The Zippys may be facing nothing but the bottom of the standings this year, but it hasn't hurt Derek Jeter's game, starting the game at shortstop. D'Angelo Jimenez wouldn't be the first name people would bring up as being an all-star, but there he is, starting at 2nd. Carlos Delgado of the Pitbulls had the highest overall value of hitters in the conference. Check this out: *Both* of the Climber's catchers made the all-star game. ARod is having a bit of a crummy year, hitting only .225, but thanks to a packed Paxtang lineup still makes the all-star game. California places 3/4 of their infield in the all-star game, alongside Milton Bradley in center to give them the most all-star sluggers in the conference with 4. Sacramento is having a crummy year, but that didn't stop CF Lance Berkman from making an appearance. The CF appearing as any OF applies here; he starts if he shifts from center. He's slugging .500 the hard way, with only 9 home runs at the break. Wilson Alvarez threw his last regular season game this week, but his effort is good enough to land him in the all-star game as a starter. Pedro Martinez is rewarded from a wildly successful Climbers half-season with an all-star node. David Riske is odds-on favorite for fireman of the year, leading the league with 27 saves. Paxtang teammate Brad Lidge's tiny ERA and WHIP gets him an all-star node despite only 3 saves. Last year's FOTY, Seattle's Keith Foulke, is 2nd on the RY list of relievers. California's Jose Valverde is doing a stellar job as the Conehead closer, tying for 2nd in the league in saves with 20. SOME OF THOSE WHO DID NOT MAKE THE CUT...
