2002 CFOD ALL-FUTILITY TEAM To try something different this year, the 2002 CFOD all-futility teams were selected base upon the following formulas: BATVAL = 0.09*(RUNS+RBI)+(AB+BB)*(OBA+SBSLG-0.754)*0.09 STARTPITVAL = ((WINS+SAVES)/1.2+IP/10*((LN(4.29/ERA)+LN(1.381/WHIP)))) RELPITVAL = ((WINS+SAVES)/1.6+IP/5*((LN(4.29/ERA)+LN(1.381/WHIP)))) Where SBSLG is slugging percentage with net steals factored in, WHIP is (walks + hits)/IP, and LN is the natural log of the function. Starters are those that have at least half of their game appearances as game starts, while relievers are those that do not have at least half of their appearances as game starts. Hitters only qualified at the position where they've played the most this season, with centerfields also qualifying in the left/right field positions if they had enough value. In general the formulas were balanced such that the best hitters/starters/relievers had an equal contribution from runs/RBI's/wins/saves as from their sabrmatic-esque stats. The main difference to make the all-futility team is to have a minimum of 300 at bats, 130 IP for starters, or 50 IP for relievers, and to have the worst value among the position that you played the most during the season. The double-play combo of Fernando Vina and Tony Womack were cut loose by the Moshers before the season began, and with good reason. Mo Vaughn stands out among the pack, finishing with a value almost equal to all of the other hitters combined. But, someone has to finish as the worst rated 1B in the league. Joel Pineiro was an all-CFOD reliever in 2001. His move into the rotation didn't help the Stingers. Hillsborough put 2 starters on the list, Damian Moss and Ryan Jensen. Regulators starter Dave Williams failed to make the team based on inning requirements, but he deserves an honorable mention by going 0-14 with 15 games started and 47 innings pitched. That's 3 1/3 innings per start. Joaquin Benoit is the anti-Mike Remlinger this year. He didn't have any wins, losses and just 2 saves, but had a 6.61 ERA and a 1.93 WHIP in 66 2/3 innings.
