Jones was top 5 in average and on base average, and led the league in runs with 137. They put up some great stats, and are the difference between their teams making it and not making it. Thome finished 2nd in the league in on base average, 3rd in slugging, 3rd in runs, 3rd in home runs, and was top 10 in RBI. Schilling was on target those 273 1/3 innings, leading the league in strikeouts, 2nd in ERA, tops in hits per 9 innings, walks per 9 innings, total runners per 9 innings, and his 19 wins were tied for 3rd best in the league. Their 16-5 record when tied after 7, and their 31-23 1-run record, both league highs, indicated someone special was on in relief in the late innings. That someone was Keith Foulke. Foulke led the league in save opportunities with 49, saves with 44 (11 more than the 2nd place finisher), save percentage with .898, and sported a 2.61 ERA. When Foulke was on the mound in the 9th, he got it done.
