CFOD ALL-STAR TEAMS The 2001 CFOD all-star teams were selected base upon the following formulas: BATVAL = 0.09*(RUNS+RBI)+(AB+BB)*(OBA+SBSLG-0.820)*0.09 STARTPITVAL = ((WINS+SAVES)/1.2+IP/10*((LN(4.60/ERA)+LN(1.42/WHIP)))) RELPITVAL = ((WINS+SAVES)/1.6+IP/5*((LN(4.60/ERA)+LN(1.42/WHIP)))) Where SBSLG is slugging percentage with net steals factored in, WHIP is (walks + hits)/IP, and LN is the natural log of the function. Starters are those that have at least half of their game appearances as game starts, while relievers are those that do not have at least half of their appearances as game starts. Hitters only qualified at the position where they've played the most this season, with centerfields also qualifying in the left/right field positions if they had enough value. In general the formulas were balanced such that the best hitters/starters/relievers had an equal contribution from runs/RBI's/wins/saves as from their sabrmatic-esque stats. The California Coneheads, Angry Candy and Springfield Isotopes tie for the most all-stars with 5 each. This year's game will be held at Enron Field, home of the Paxtang Pitbulls. Thunder teammate Luis Gonzalez is the highest rated hitting for the RY all-stars. Paul Lo Duca of the Brouhaha gets the starting catch nod over mainstay Mike Piazza of the Coneheads. The Lightning had two stellar center fielder candidates this year, but neither has been pushed out of the spotlight, as Ken Griffey Jr made the team as a center fielder and Jim Edmonds has the starting position at first base. Who'd a thunk that Mark Grudzielanek would make the all-star team this year? Joel Pineiro of the MooseDogs broke the formula for relievers, putting up an iron horse-esque 91 2/3 relief innings by the all-star break, all with a 1.18 ERA. Venerable Norm Charlton makes the all-star team saving 19 games for the Thunder. Kerry Wood comes back from injury to make his first all-star appearance since his highly hyped #1 draft selection in 1998. Troy Percival has been money in the 9th, putting up a tiny 0.79 ERA and 15 saves. Barry Bonds is on top again, being the top rated hitter on the MK squad (and in all of the league). Close behind is the Regulators' Jason Giambi, on an MVP pace through the first half of the season. Phil Nevin of the Brewins gets a nod over Chipper Jones and the other marquee-named third baseman in the MK conference. Miguel Tejada of the Towers continues his improvement, nabbing the 2nd team all-star honors at shortstop. Cristian Guzman of the Brewins comes out of nowhere to get the starting shortstop nod. Carlos Beltran of the Rock recovers nicely from a sophomore slump to start at centerfield.
