In the top of the 1st, on Wells' 2nd pitch of the game, Darrin Erstad knocked it over the wall. Juan Gonzales hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning for a 2-0 Coneheads lead. In the 4th inning, Mike Sweeney put the Termites on the board with a solo homer. In the top of the 5th, the Coneheads piled on 3 more runs on singles by Piazza and Rolen, as well as a Damian Easley sacrifice fly. 5-1 California. The Termites shortened the lead in the 6th inning on a Ken Caminiti RBI single and a 2-out bases loaded walk to Mike Sweeney. 5-3 California. The two teams traded a run in the 8th inning, and in the bottom of the 9th, San Diego had to score 3 or more runs to continue in the series, and they'd have to do it against Mariano Rivera. First batter up was Omar Vizquel, who hit a 0 out single. But Ramon Martinez killed the momentum by hitting into a double play. Orlando Palmeiro flied out to end the game and the Termites' season. California wins game five by a score of 6-4, and advance to the 2000 CFOD World Series.
