Cautions (Thurman) at Dragons (Clemens). In their home stadium for the last time in this series, the Dragons got a leadoff home run from Brady Anderson in the 1st inning. The Cautions, taking advantage of Coors field, tied it up in the 2nd with a solo home run by Cory Koskie. In the bottom of the 4th, with a runner on board, Alex Arias hit a rare 2-run home run, giving Avila a 3-1 lead. After trading a run in the 7th, Alex Arias went to his newfound well of strength, smashing another 2 run blast in the 8th to put the game out of reach. Avila wins game 5 by a score of 6-2, and are a win away from advancing to the CDBL world series. In the first inning, the Dragons scored 3 runs, capped by a 2-RBI triple from Olmedo Saenz. In the 2nd inning, the Dragons loaded the bases, and Mo Vaughn smacked a grand slam home run. The Dragons were up 7-0 after 2 innings. But the Cautions were not going to roll over and give up. In the 3rd inning, Trot Nixon hit a solo home run, and JT Snow hit a 2-out RBI double to close the lead to 5. In the 4th inning, Richard Hidalgo hit a solo home run, cutting the lead to 4. In the 5th inning, with Nixon on first, Rusty Greer homered, making it a 2-run Avila lead. The game remained 7-5 Avila heading into the bottom of the 9th. The Cautions had 3 outs to extend their season. Dragons closer Keith Foulke was on the mound. Trot Nixon hit a leadoff double, but then Craig Grebeck hit into a double play. 2 outs. Rusty Greer was at bat, and came through, hitting a solo home run to cut the Dragons lead down to 1 run. 7-6 ball game. JT Snow reached on an infield single, putting the winning run, Phil Nevin at the plate. Nevin doubled, putting runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. Closers have not had a good post-season, would that continue with the Dragons? Corey Koskie was at the plate to face Foulke. A base hit could very well send this to a game 7. But Foulke buckled down, striking out Koskie to end the game and series. Avila wins game 6 by a score of 7-6, and advance to the CDBL world series.
