NOTES: The 1998 CDBL regular season is over! Albuquerque won their final game, the Mashers lost their final game, and the Decaf beat the Fishbiscuits to put Seattle into the playoffs as the last league wildcard. Here is the playoff bracket: Round 1: Seattle Decaf (87-75) (League WC #2) vs. California Kamados (118-44) (Aaron Pennant) (HFA) Point Lomas Friars (89-73) (AP Conf Wildcard) vs. Madison Muckrakers (102-60) (Paige Pennant) (HFA) Dedham Destroyers (91-71) (League WC #1) vs. Avila Dragons (104-58) (Tiant Pennant) (HFA) Alphaville Cautions (95-67) (GT Conf Wildcard) vs. Encinitas Surfers (92-70) (Gehrig Pennant) (HFA) The California Kamados capture their first pennant in style, winning a league record 118 games. The Muckrakers repeat as Paige division champs, the Surfers captured their 2nd pennant in 4 years, and the Dragons captured their 3rd pennant in 4 years. The Decaf make the playoffs for teh first time since moving to Seattle, and the Cautions make their first playoff appearance in 7 years and many franchise ownership changes ago. The San Diego Rude Dawgs capture the #1 draft slot this year with a dreadful 30-132 record. Topeka, Elk Grove and Concord are fellow members of the 95 loss club. Just missing out on the playoffs will sting for the Mashers, but they wind up with 5th overall pick (based on a better run margin than the Maul). A number of records were broken this year. Mark McGwire established a new record for home runs, hitting 79 to break Jeff Bagwell's 1994 record. Jason Kendall tied his own record for being hit by a pitch with 31, a record he established last year. The Dragons tied the high in team batting average with a .303 rate, and the Cavaliers set a new league low for team triples with a paltry 12. The Kamados established a new high for team wins with 118 and tied for most saves with 56. The Fishbiscuits tied the league low in starting pitcher complete games with just 1. Thanks to all for another great season! I hope to send out playoff information shortly.
