1998 CDBL ALL-STAR GAME The 1998 CDBL All-Star Game, between the Gehrig/Tiant Conference All-Stars and the Aaron/Paige All-Stars, was held at Pro Player Stadium, home of the California Kamados, the team with the best record at the break. Both starters, Albuquerque's John Smoltz and California's Omar Daal, did their teams proud, pitching 2 scoreless innings. The first run happened in the top of the 3rd, when with 2 outs and 2 on, Toronto's John Olerud singled, scoring Matt Stairs from 2nd to put the GT All-Stars up 1-0. In the bottom of the 3rd, with 2 on and 0 outs, DBL's Craig Biggio smacked a 3-run shot, putting the AP All-Stars up 3-1. The GT All-Stars ran wild in the 4th, pounding out 5 runs, capped by back to back home runs by Nomar Garciaparra (2 runs there) and a solo shot by Alex Rodriguez. 6-3 GT. The GT All-Stars added 2 more in the 5th on RBI singles by Concord's Chipper Jones and Boston's Bobby Abreu for a commanding 8-3 lead. The AP All-Stars would score 2 more in the 7th on a 2-run shot by Manhatten Beach's Mark McGwire, but that would be all they'd score. Boston's Robb Nen struck out Point Lomas slugger Greg Vaughn with 2 outs and nobody on in the bottom of the 9th to seal the game. The GT All-Stars win the 1998 CDBL All-Star game by a score of 8-5. CDBL PLAYOFF MVP: In a game where so many runs were scored, the solid start by Albuquerque's John Smoltz (2 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 3 strikeouts) helped the GT All-Stars on their way to victory. Smoltz gets the All-Star MVP nod this year. 7/4/2012, GT98-AP98, Pro Player Stadium 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E LOB DP 1998 GT All-Stars 0 0 1 5 2 0 0 0 0 8 15 0 8 1 1998 AP All-Stars 0 0 3 0 0 0 2 0 0 5
