NOTES: The 1997 regular season of the CDBL is complete! The Isotopes lost their final game, and the Muckrakers won their final game to put Springfield and Madison into a tie for the Paige division title. Since Madison bested Springfield 7-5 in regular season play, Madison will head into the playoffs with the #2 seed. Arkham Below is the post-season playoff bracket: AP Conference: 1. Arkham Investigators (113-49, HFA) vs. 4. Springfield Isotopes (97-65, #1 league wildcard) 2. Madison Muckrakers (97-65, HFA) vs. 3. Manhatten Beach Mashers (100-62, AP Conf wildcard) GT Conference: 1. San Diego Rude Dawgs (101-61, HFA) vs. 4. Encinitas Surfers (93-69, #2 league wildcard) 2. Albuquerque Maul (96-66, HFA) vs. 3. Boston Bulldogs (97-65, GT Conf wildcard) The California Kamados season of sorrow is finally at an end, and the 129 loss Kamados will hold the #1 pick in the 1998 draft. This will be the 4th straight year that California has had at least a top 3 pick. In the 95 loss club this year are the Cautions, Destroyers, Cavaliers and Outlaws. Selecting 6th next year is the Avila Dragons, who finished out of the playoffs with an 87-75 season. Several new records were set this year. Mark McGwire of the Mashers set a new mark for RBI with 186, beating Ken Griffey Jr's mark of 178 set in '94. Jason Kendall crowded the plate this year, setting a new record for being hit by pitches with 31, 1 more than what Don Baylor had in 1985. Greg Maddux of the Surfers set a new mark for walks per 9 innings with 0.7, beating Zane Smith's record set in 1992. On the team records front, Arkham tied Avila's mark for most wins by a team with 113. Madison broke the team saves record with 56. The Bulldogs broke their own record for most strikouts by a pitching staff with 1317. The Tualatin Thunder starters didn't have much stamina this year, setting a new record for fewest complete games with just 1. I will send out playoff information shortly. Thanks for another great season!
