Arkham had the best record in the majors this season, and beat both Tiant-division-pennant tying teams Springfield Isotopes and Madison Muckrakers to make their 3rd world series apperance. Ken Griffey Jr is having a great post-season, hitting .385 with 6 home runs, 13 runs scored and 10 RBI. JT Snow is hitting .364 with 3 home rusn, 8 runs scored and 7 RBI, while Jon Nunnally is hitting .500 with 3 home runs, 7 runs scored and 7 RBI in only 22 at bats. Francisco Cordova is 2-1 with a 1.86 ERA, and Kevin Appier is 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA. Boston entered the playoffs as the #3 seed, and proceeded to knock off both GT division champs Albuquerque Maul and San Diego Rude Dawgs to make their 4th world series appearance. Ray Lankford is hitting .325 with 4 home runs, 7 runs scored and 12 RBI, while Edgar Martinez has a .426 on base average, 3 home runs, 88 runs scorend and 8 RBI. Edgardo Alfoznzo is hitting .378 with 8 runs scored. Starter Matt Morris is 2-1 with a 3.22 ERA, while Jeff Fassero is 1-0 with a 2.75 ERA in 3 starts. Arkham has home field advantage due to their pennant winning status. ******************************************************************* GAME ONE -- Bulldogs (Johnson) at Investigators (Appier). The big series kicks off in Arkham. Boston was the first team to score when Ray Lankford singled, stole second, moved to third on a ground out by Pat Meares, and socred on a groundout by Orlando Merced. Reggie Sanders tied it up with 1 swing in the bottom of the 4th, a solo home run. In the 5th inning, Boston retook the lead when Joe Girardi doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a base hit by Edgardo Alfonzo. 2-1 Boston. In the 7th inning, with 1 out, Matt Lawton hit a grounder to Randy Johnson, who managed to misplay the ball. Error to pitcher, and Lawton was at first. Pinch hitter Juan Samuel tripled, scoring Lawton and tying up the game at 2. Kurt Abbott singled, scoring Samuel. 3-2 Arkham after 7. In the top of the 8th inning, Mike Remlinger came on in relief for the Investigators. The first batter, Edgardo Alfonzo, walked. Remlinger was yanked in favor of Stan Belinda to face Edgar Martinez. Belinda's shaky post-season continued, as Martinez took Belinda deep to give Boston a 4-3 lead. Lankford walked and Pat Meares was hit by a pitch to put 2 on. With 2 outs, Henry Rodriguez doubled, scoring 2 runs and gave Boston a 6-3 lead. Joe Randa cut the gap to 2 in the bottom of the inning with an RBI double, but Boston scored 2 more runs in the top of the 9th to give Boston a comfortable 8-4 lead heading into the bottom of the 9th. Jeff Nelson made a brief appearance for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the 9th, walking Dave Hansen before being replaced by Mark Wohlers. Wohlers would struggle, getting 2 outs but throwing a wild pitch and walking 2 runners to load the bases with 2 outs. Jeffrey Hammonds was at the plate, representing the tying run. Mark Wohlers was pitching for the Bulldogs. The first batter up, Ken Griffey Jr, hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 1. Jon Nunnally got a base hit. With 1 out, Matt Lawton walked, putting 2 runners on. The next batter, Mark Loretta, popped out. With 2 outs, all eyes were now on pinch hitter Juan Samuel. Ken Griffey Jr cut the lead to 2 in the 2nd inning with a solo home run. Jose Valentin cut the lead to 1 in the 4th with a solo home run of his own. In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Bulldogs loaded the bases. With 1 out, Stan Javier got the walk, forcing in a run. Edgardo Alfonzo hit a sacrifice fly to make it 5-2 Bulldogs. Boston added an insurance run in the 6th. Boston remained comfortably in front heading into the top of the 9th with a 4 run lead. Jeff Nelson was pitching for Boston.
