NOTES: The 1996 season is complete! The Isotopes won their final game, clinching the Paige division pennant. The Cavaliers won their last 8 games in a row, securing home field advantage throughout the playoffs (and their 2nd pennant ever in history). Here is the playoff bracket: Round 1 - AP Conference 1. Manhatten Beach Mashers (97-65) (HFA) vs. 4. Dewey Beach Lush (90-72, #1 league wildcard) 2. Springfield Isotopes (91-71) (HFA) vs. 3. Point Lomas Friars (92-70, AP conference wildcard) Round 1 - GT Conference 1. Hong Kong Cavaliers (109-53) (HFA) vs. 4. Orange Whoop (87-75, #2 league wildcard) 2. Avila Dragons (95-67) (HFA) vs. 3. Albuquerque Maul (91-71, GT conference wildcard) Several records were broken this year. Gary Sheffield of the Lush set a on base average of .527, eclipsing Edgar Martinez's 1 year old mark. Lance Johnson of the Maul tied the triples mark of 21 set by two individuals, the last being Johnson in 1994. Sheffield also set the walks record with 176, passing teammate Jim Thome's 1995 record. California's Derek Jeter tied the record for longest in-season hit streak, getting a hit in 34 straight games, tying Tony Gwynn's mark from 1987. The Mashers set a new team on base average record of .376, while the Lush tied the mark for team slugging with a .505 slugging average. The Lush also broke their own record for team home runs (305) and RBI (991), set just a year ago. The Isotopes shattered the team walks record, getting 884 BB's this season. The Lush also set a few (in)famous team pitching records, giving up the most walks ever (739), and fewest shutouts (0), while the Destroyers tied the league record for fewest complete games with 2. With a 45-117 record, the Dedham Destroyers have secured the #1 pick. The Arkham Investigators are the only other member of the 95 loss club, so that means that the California Kamados, with a 85-77 record, get the #3 overall pick. I will send more playoff info shortly. Thanks to all for another great season!
