Aaron-Paige Conference Final Preview Manhatten Beach Mashers (112-50, Aaron division pennant winner, defeated Dewey Beach 4-1 in round 1) vs. Springfield Isotopes (102-60, Paige division pennant winner, defeated Arkham 4-0 in round 1) Manhatten Beach put up one of the most dominanting seasons on record. Bash brothers Mark McGwire and Rob Deer combined to smack 93 home runs and drive in 258 runs. 3B Dave Hollins scored 132 runs and drove in 86. Rickey Henderson sported a .405 on base average with 97 runs scored and 105 RBI. Despite tying the league record for wins, no starter won 20 games. Tom Candiotti went 17-5 with a 2.74 ERA, Dennis Martinez was 15-9 with a 2.39 ERA, and Danny Jackson went 15-8. Closer Mike Fetters won 8 games and saved 32. Springfield is just starting to hit their stride. Barry Bonds had a smashing year, hitting 10 triples, 32 home runs, 124 runs scored and 105 RBI with 41 stolen bases. The perfect blend of speed and power (for these years at least!) Rookie Pat Listach sported a .336 batting average, .379 on base average, 107 runs scored and 50 stolen bases. Greg Vaughn was the other big bat, hitting 30 home runs with 126 RBI. Melido Perez was among the elite pitchers this year, going 23-6 with a 2.45 ERA. Curt Schlling went 17-10. Closer Dennis Eckersley won 8 games in relief and saved 33 with a tiny 1.94 ERA. In 8 regular season games, the teams battled to a 4-4 tie.
