1991 CDBL Mid-Season Review AARON DIVISION: The Aaron division continues to reign supreme. The Manhatten Beach Mashers (62-27) have the league's best record, but are in a division where the 2nd best record belongs to 2nd place Arkham Investigators (59-29), and the 3rd best record belongs to the Elk Grove Trout (55-31). Rickey Henderson has a .421 on base percentage, 45 stolen bases with 83 runs scored in 89 games. Tom Candiotti is 13-3 with a 1.87 ERA, and Mashers closer Jeff Gray has a 0.70 ERA and 22 saves. Arkham's Ken Griffey Jr. is only slugging .456, but has 60 runs scored and 47 RBI. Arkham pitchers Jose Rijo and Trevor Wilson are a combined 21-4. Trout 1B Will Clark (.520 slugging, 69 RBI) and 2B Julio Franco (.334 average, 64 runs scored) have been an effective combo, and closer Mike Maddux is having a great year at closer, sporting a 7-3 record with 20 saves and a 1.43 ERA. The Mighty Pugs and Point Lomas Friars are 20+ games out of first and won't be a factor again this year. PAIGE DIVISION: The league's punching bag, this division has only 1 team (DC Riots, 48-40) with a record above .500. Riots 3B Chris Sabo has 73 runs scored and 50 RBI, while Dararyl Hamilton has 57 runs scored and a .329 batting average. Starter Mike Moore is 12-6, while Carl Willis had 21 saves before burning out at mid-season. Dewey Beach is the closest team to the Riots, but being down 7 games at the break, will have to have a very strong 2nd half to catch up to them. GEHRIG DIVISION: The Concord Minutemen (52-30) and Morningside Urban Rats (54-39, 3 1/2 back) are locked in a struggle for the division pennant. Jose Canseco has been carrying the Minutemen, bashing 39 homers and 82 RBI at the break. Tim Belcher is 10-5, and closer Bryan Harvey has saved 20 games with a 1.28 ERA. The Rats have a more team-based approach to hitting, with OF Danny Tartabull (52 runs, 51 RBI) and catcher Mickey Tettleton (19 homers, 60 RBI) leading the way. Closer Scott Radinsky has 19 saves. The Albuquerque Maul have a winning record (42-39), but are 9 1/2 games out. TIANT DIVISION: Of the 4 divisions, this is the one that is most up for grabs. Dark Valley (47-41) is in the lead, but the San Diego Stars are 1/2 game back. Within 5 games are the Boston Bulldogs and Front Range Riders. Even last place Orange Whoop isn't completely out of it, being 7 1/2 games back. Destinies closer Duane Ward has only 9 saves, but has a 0.40 ERA as well. Infielder Howard Johnson is slugging .545 with 58 runs scored and 69 RBI. Stars closer Mitch Williams has 19 saves, and shortstop Cal Ripken is enjoying one of his better seasons, hitting 17 homers, 60 runs and 55 RBI at the break.
