The 1989 regular season is complete. The playoff brackets will look like this: __Mashers_(pennant)_______ __Friars (AP Conf WC)_____|________________ | __Trout (League WC)_______ |__AP Conf Champ_____ __Riots (pennant, HFA)____|________________| | | __Surfers (pennant, HFA)__ 1989 CFOD CHAMP___| __BYE_____________________|________________ | | | __Maul (GT Conf WC)_______ |__GT Conf Champ_____| __Bulldogs (pennant)______|________________| The Riots and Surfers end in a dead-tie for best record in the league (104-58). After a rough couple of years, the Point Lomas Friars return to the playoffs in a wildcard spot. The Mashers win their third straight Aaron division pennant. The Trout are in the playoffs for the 2nd time in 3 years. The Riots win their 2nd straight Tiant division pennant. The Surfers win their first pennant since the initial '84 season and their first playoff appearance since '86. The Maul make the playoffs for the first time since 1985. The Bulldogs make their 2nd straight playoff appearance, and won their first pennant since the 1985 season. Just a few records fell this year. Bo Jackson bashed 39 homers this year, but also fanned 213 times, a new record. The Investigators matched the league low for batting average for the 2nd year in a row, hitting a paltry .220. The Dennis Eckersley-led Riots reliever staff set a new league high for saves with 55, while the Mashers set a new innings pitched record with 1511 1/3 innings. The Lush's pitching staff was truly anemic this season, setting new league lows for strikeouts (740) and tied the league low for complete games (4). We will start the playoffs by having the Friars face the Mashers. The week after that will see the Maul take on the Bulldogs and the Riots face the Trout. Week after that are the conference finals, and after that is the 1989 CDBL world series. Thanks to all for another season. I'll try not to have the all-star break be quite so long next year! There are only 2 teams in the "95 game losers" club, Arkham and Dewey Beach. Which means that the runner up in the Tiant division pennant race, Dallas, gets the #3 overall pick. Once again I bungled the capture of the scores for the last two games of the season. To make up for it, I've printed out all of the scores for all of the games, which are available on the web site.
