1989 CDBL MID-SEASON REVIEW AARON DIVISION: This one is a 3-way horse race between the Trout (49-28), Mashers (52-32, 1/2 game behind), and Friars (49-31, 1 1/2 behind). Will Clark and Tony Gwynn are on pace for 100 runs scored for Elk Grove, while all-star starter Chuck Finley could win 20 games. Milwaukee's Rickey Henderson has been awesome, scoring 63 runs and stealing 40 bases at the break. Point Lomas speedster Tim Raines isn't far behind, scoring 59 runs and stealing 34 bases. It will be tough for Forth Worth (37-43, 13 1/2 back) to catch up, but 3B Gary Gaetti is on pace for 30 homers and 100 RBI. For Arkham (23-58, 28 back), it's another race for the #1 pick. PAIGE DIVISION: The Riots have locked up this race for the pennant (52-25, 11 games up). Robin Yount is hitting .325 with 51 runs scored and 51 RBI. Mike Moore and Scott Bankhead are a combined 22-8, and uber-closer Dennis Eckersley has a league leading 21 saves. While the pennant is out of reach, Springfield (40-35) is still in the hunt for a wildard spot. Mark Grace has been the leader of this team, hitting .328 with 48 runs scored. Barry Bonds is hoping for a 2nd half breakout (currently hitting .228, but still has 42 runs scored for the year). Hurdle Mills (40-41) is hovering around .500. Lonnie Smith has 52 runs scored, and Dwight Evans has 48 RBI. For Long Beach (35-47), Fargo (31-45), and Dewey Beach (19-59, 33 1/2 back), it's wait until next year. GEHRIG DIVISION: Ocean Beach (46-30) has finished strong, winning their last 5 through the all-star break. Danny Tartabull has 18 homers and 53 RBI, while Von Hayes has 55 RBI. Starter Bryn Smith is 10-2 with a 2.13 ERA. Albuquerque (44-37, 4 1/2 back) and Concord (43-39, 6 back) remain in pennant contention. Maul OF Pete Incaviglia has 15 homers and 53 RBI, and IF Jody Reed has 46 runs scored. Mike Scott is 10-4 with a 2.38 ERA. For Concord, Kirby Puckett is hitting .359 with 56 runs scored, and George Bell has 53 RBI. Topeka (35-43, 12 back), PV (33-42, 12 1/2 back), and Homestead (31-45, 15 back) are hanging at the back of the pack. TIANT DIVISION: This one is wide open. The Dallas Donkeys (46-34) currently lead. Mark McGwire has been his usual stellar self, bashing 22 homers with 47 RBI. 3B Ken Caminiti has 45 RBI. Bret Saberhagen is currently 8-5 with a 2.36 ERA. Not far behind the Donkeys are the Bulldogs (44-36, 2 back), Stars (45-38, 2 1/2 back) and Dark Valley (41-38, 4 1/2 back). Boston 3B Kevin Mitchell is having an MVP year, blasting 30 homers with 52 runs scored and 72 RBI. OF Chili Davis has 16 homers with 41 runs scored. Jeff Russell has 18 saves with a 1.67 ERA. For the Stars, Eric Davis is hitting only .244, but has 20 homers and 55 RBI. Cal Ripken is hitting .309 with 49 RBI's, and Milt Thompson has 47 runs scored and 28 stolen bases. For Dark Valley, Howard Johnson is ahving an amazing year at 3rd base (.409 on base average, 18 homers, 57 runs scored, 59 RBI. Jack Clark is hitting only .190, but his walks make up for it (.363 OBA), resulting in 55 runs scored for the year. The only who isn't within 10 games are the Orange Whoop (35-44, 10 1/2 back). 1B Kent Hrbek and OF Bo Jackson have combined for 45 home runs and 100 RBI between them. Ed Whitson is 7-3 with a 1.68 ERA.
