AARON-PAIGE ALL-STARS Played at the Point Lomas Friar's home stadium - Jack Murphy Stadium At first, this looked to be a pitcher's game. For the aces, the Bulldogs' Mike Witt and Masher's Kirk McCaskill each put in their two scoreless, hitless innings, although McCaskill did start the 3rd. He got one more out before being pulled in favor of the Masher's Tom Hume. Unfortunately for the AP all-stars, Hume didn't have quite as good of game as McCaskill. Hume walked the Stars' Andy Van Slyke and Destinies' Danny Tartabull, and was yanked with 2 outs left. On came supreme the Trout's supreme reliever Mark Clear...who walked the Maul's Glenn Davis. 2 outs in the 3rd with the bases loaded and the score tied at 0-0. He pitches to the Mountaineer's Kevin McReynolds, who uses his bat judgement to get the walk, scoring Van Slyke from 3rd. Clear fails to get the crucial out, and gets unceremoniously yanked from the game. On comes the Hurdle Mills Hurdlers' closer Davis Smith. Could he end the inning by getting the Stars' Cal Ripken out? Nope. Ripken hits a single down the line, scoring 2 runs and making it a 3-0 GT all-stars game. The AP all-stars wouldn't go down without a fight, however. In the bottom of the 3rd, with the Destinies' John Tudor on the mound and the Aztecs' Steve Sax on 1st, pinch hitting Arkham Investigators' 1B Ken Phelps gets the double, scoring Sax. The Friars' Bert Blyleven started the 4th inning for the AP all-stars. With 2 on, the GT all-stars accidentally send up John Tudor to bat. But Tudor's a trooper, and gets the RBI single. 4-1 GT. Van Slyke is next up to bat, and hits a grounder to Steve Sax .. who boots it. Pineapple Cory Snyder scored from third, 5-1 GT. Now with the Hurders' Rick Rhoden on board, Danny Tartabull smacks an RBI double. 7-1. Glenn Davis follows up with an RBI single and Kevin McReynolds clears the bases with a 2-run dinger. 10-1 GT. It's pretty clear who is going to win this one. The Stingers' Don Mattingly gets a solo shot in the 8th, and that's all she wrote. The Traffic's Mark Eichhorn gets the Liberty's Mike Trujillo (the roster had been exhausted by this point) to ground out, ending the game. The Gehrig-Tiant all-stars win big, by a score of 11-1 over the Aaron-Paige all-stars. ALL-STAR MVP: The Destinies' Danny Tartabull went 1 for 3 with a walk, double, 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Mr. Tartabull is your 1986 CDBL all-star MVP.
