In the first game on Tualatin's home turf, Victor Martinez put the Thunder in front early, hitting a leadoff home run in the 1st inning. In the top of the 2nd, Gary Sheffield tied it up with a solo home run of his own. The Friars followed up by loading the bases, and a Kevin Millwood double play scored a runner from 3rd. Brady Clark doubled, scoring 2 runners, and David Eckstein made it 4-1 Point Lomas with an RBI single. In the 5th inning, Troy Glaus put an exclamation point on the lead, hitting a grand slam home run.. 8-1 Point Lomas after 4 1/2 innings of play. The Friars got a little comfortable after that, allowing 2 runners to score in the bottom of the inning. After scoring a run in the 6th, Point Lomas allowed another 2 runners to score in a 7th and 1 more in the 8th to make it 9-6 Point Lomas heading into the bottom of the 9th. Justin Speier was on the mound for his 3rd straight relief appearance. Preston Wilson grounded out for the first out. Chris Woodward walked. After Jorge Piedra flied out, Victor Martinez got a walk on 4 straight pitchers. Speier was done for the day and Brad Thompson was on in relief to face Miguel Cabrera. Facing Brad Thompson with 2 outs and his team down by 3, Cabrera had a big hit, doubling to score Woodward. 9-7 Point Lomas. Eric Chavez singled, scoring another runner. What was a 7 run lead was down down to a single run. Jose Molina was struck by a pitch, loading the bases. Pedro Baez came on in relief for the Friars to face Chris Shelton. A single would at least tie the game, more would win it. But Shelton fell short, striking out to end the game. Point Lomas wins its 3rd 1-run game in a row, and are a win away from advancing to the AP Conference Finals.
