In the 6th, Wily Taveras hit a 2 out single, moved to 3rd on a single from pitcher Aaron Fultz and scored on a base hit from Damian Miller. Cavaliers lead down to 1, and Radke would last 5 2/3 innings, giving up 6 earned runs. In the top of the 7th, David Ortiz hit his 3rd home run of the game, a solo shot to tie up the game at 7. In the bottom of the 7th, Matt Wise was on the mound in relief for the Mashers. Marlon Anderson smacked a leadoff double and moved to 3rd on a fly out from Brian Giles. Larry Walker singled, scoring Anderson to give the Cavaliers the 8-7 lead. Wise ran into trouble in the bottom of the 8th, loading the bases with 1 out. Wise threw a wild pitch, scoring a run. Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to make it 10-7 Cavaliers. Cavaliers closer Joe Nathan was on the mound in the 9th, and Abraham Nunez came on as a defensive replacement at third. Hong Kong was 3 outs away from the first CDBL Championship in franchise history. First batter up, David Ortiz, walked. The next batter, the normally clutch hitting Marcus Giles, hit into a double play, putting 2 outs on the board with nobody on base. With the final out, Rafael Furcal grounded out to Nunez to end the game and the season. Hong Kong overcomes blowing a 7 run lead to win game 6 by a score of 10-7 and win the CDBL World Series. CAVALIERS WIN 4-2, 2005 CDBL CHAMPIONS! PLAYOFF MVP: Brian Giles had an amazing series, hitting .333 with 3 home runs, 7 runs scored and 7 RBI. But playoff MVP honors goes to longtime staff ace Pedro Martinez, who went 2-0 in 2 starts with a 0.53 ERA, including a 3-hit, 7 K shutout gem in game 5 in what may be his final start for the Cavaliers. The #1 overall pick in 1992 finally gets his ring and playoff MVP honors. 10/28/2005, MBM05-HKC05, Tropicana Field 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 R H E LOB DP 2005 Mashers 0 0 3 0 2 1 1 0 0 7 14 0 8 0 2005
