******************************************************************* GAME THREE -- Bulldogs (Wakefield) at Cautions (Ohka). For the first half of the game, pitching once again ruled the roost as the score remained 0-0 after 5 innings. The Cautions were the first team to score when Omar Vizquel hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 6th inning. In the top of the 7th, Boston took a 2-1 lead when Fred McGriff hit his 2nd home run of the series, a 2 run blast. In the bottom of the 7th, with runners at 1st and 3rd, Roberto Machado keyed a single, scoring a run to tie it up at 2. The Candy loaded the bases with 2 outs and Corey Koskie at the plate. Danny Graves had some control problems, as Koskie was walked on 5 pitches, forcing in a run to put Alphaville up 3-2 after 7. Mike Koplove started out the top of the 8th for the Cautions, but struggled, loading the bases with 1 out. Chris Gomez smacked a key base hit, driving in 2 runs to give Boston a 4-3 lead. Heading into the bottom of the 9th. Closer Jose Jimenez was pitching for Boston in the bottom of the 9th, having lost game 1 and having gotten the save in game 2. The first batter up, Juan Encarnacion, smacked a solo home run to tie the game up at 4. Blown save. Jimenez did get Orlando Palmeiro, Omar Vizquel and Corey Koskie to ground out, but the game would still go to extra innings with a score of 4 runs apiece. In the top of the 10th, Ben Davis hit a 1 out double, and moved to third on a ground out from Gomez. With 2 outs and a runnerr at third, Eli Marrero had a clutch base hit, scoring Davis to give Boston the 5-4 lead. Attempting to save the game for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the 10th was Jason Grismley, who had a 1 run lead. Mike Sweeney got a leadoff single. Trot Nixon then singled to put 2 on with 0 outs. Marvin Benard flied out for out #1. Up next was Orlando Hudson. A single would likely tie it, a double possibly winning it. But Hudson could not deliver, hitting into a double play to end the game. Boston wins the third consecutive 1 run game (and 2nd extra innings game) by a score of 5-4.
