-- Cavaliers (Johnson) at Minutemen (Lowe). Game three was the game where the hitters got to shine. In the bottom of the 1st inning, Concord scored two runs on an RBI single from Chipper Jones and a Josh Johnson wild pitch, which scored Jones from 3rd base. In the top of the 2nd, the Cavaliers tied it up on a sacrifice fly from Benito Santiago and a single from Johnson. Concord edged ahead 3-2 in the 3rd with an RBI double from Moises Alou. For Minutemen starter Sean Lowe, the wheels fell off in the 4th inning. Hong Kong pasted him for 5 runs, starting off when Lowe walked Josh Johnson in a bases loaded situation. 7-3 Cavaliers after 4. With a 4 run lead, Hong Kong may have thought they were in the clear this game, but the 5th inning proved it was still up for grabs. The Minutemen retook the lead with a 5-run inning of their own, starting with a 2-run shot from Chipper Jones. 8-7 Minutemen after 5. Neither starter reminded anyone of Pedro Martinez or Mike Mussina. The game remained 8-7 Concord heading into the top of the 9th. Jeff Wallace was pitching for the Minutemen. First batter up, Roberto Alomar, singled. Carlos Delgado almost hit into a double play, but made it to first in time to just record the single out. Carlos Beltran singled, moving the runner to third. Robb Nen came on in relief. With 1 out and runners at the corners, Carlos Lee hit a sacrifice fly, scoring a runner and tied the game up at 8. The game would go to extra innings. The Cavaliers were the first team to score in extra innings. In the 11th inning, Tim Worrell was pitching for the Minutemen. Dave Hansen smacked a leadoff triple, and scored on a base hit from Carlos Beltran. Hong Kong would carry a 9-8 lead heading into the bottom of the inning. Minutemen (Park) at Cavaliers (Lieber). The Cavaliers were a game away from elimination, but they'd have the benefit of playing on their home field. In the top of the 1st, Concord went out in front with a solo dinger from Chipper Jones. In the bottom of the inning, a fielder's choice out with 2 on and 1 out scored Rich Aurilia, tying up the game. In the bottom of the 2nd, Hong Kong took a 2-1 lead when Chan Ho Park threw a wild pitch with 2 outs and a runner at third, allowing the runner to score. In the 6th, Concord tied it up at 2 with a solo home run from Ray Lankford. The game remained tied at 2 heading into the top of the 9th. Ray King was pitching for the Cavaliers. Leadoff hitter Bret Boone took a 2-2 pitch yard, putting the Minutemen up 3-2. The Minutemen would head into the bottom of the 9th with a 1 run lead and 3 outs away from advancing to the next round of playoffs. Everything was set up up for Concord to win. Two defensive replacements came on the field and closer Robb Nen was on the mound. The first batter, BJ Surhoff, struck out. Tomas Perez singled to put the tying run at frst. Shawon Dunston replaced him as a pinch runner. Pinch hitter Tony Graffanino singled, and Dunston motored to third. Pinch hitter Mark Little was plunked by a pitch to load the bases with 1 out. With 1 out, the bases loaded and his team down by 1 with the season on the line, Rich Aurilia had his biggest hit of the post-season. A base hit scored both Dunston and Graffanino to win the game for the Cavaliers. Hong Kong rallies to score 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th to win game 6 by a score of 4-3, and force a game seven for all of the (round 0) marbles.
