Kevin Millar got things off to a rousing start by hitting a leadoff triple. Then the Dragons found out what they are in for, as Alex Rodriguez hit the ball straight to Corey Koskie, who caught it for the out and tagged Millar out at third. The Dragons would not score in the 1st. In the top of the 2nd, Johnny Damon hit a single, stole second, and scored on a Brady Anderson single. In the bottom of the inning, Chris Latham hit a solo home run to tie the game up at 1. In the 6th inning, Millar hit a solo home run to put Avila up 2-1. In the 8th, Brad Ausmus hit a leadoff double and scored on a base hit from Aaron Sele. The Cautions had a chance to score in the bottom of the inning with the bases loaded and 2 outs, but Randy Velarde struck out to end the inning. The score would remain 3-1 Dragons heading into the bottom of the 9th. Keith Foulke was pitching for the Dragons. 1st batter up was Latham, who struck out. Chad Kreuter singled. Pinch hitter Geoff Jenkins struck out, putting 2 outs on the board. Up now was pinch hitter Mike Darr, who singled, putting the winning run, Corey Koskie, at the plate. Koskie got a base hit, scoring Kreuter to close the Dragons' lead to 1. Now at the plate with runners at 1st & 3rd and 2 outs was Mike Sweeney, one of Alphaville's best hitters. Would Sweeney be able to deliver a victory to the home crowd? He hit a deep fly ball to right field .. and it travelled .. travelled .. travelled .. into the waiting mitt of Johnny Damon in deep right field to end the game. Avila wins game 1 by a score of 3-2. GAME FOUR -- Cautions (Person) at Dragons (Biddle). After their game 3 drubbing, the Cautions were hoping to get back on track. Was not going to happen. David Segui launched a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 1st, and a 2-RBI triple from Kevin Millar led a 3-run 3rd inning to put the game out of reach early. Avila wins another blowout 9-2, and are a win away from advancing to the CDBL World Series. FIVE -- Cautions (Leiter) at Dragons (Sele). Coors Field had not been kind to Alphaville for the past 2 games. If they could win today, they'd continue the series on their home turf. The Cautions scored in the 1st inning with a Mike Sweeney RBI single. Avila answered in the bottom of the inning with a solo shot from Kevin Young. In the top of the 2nd, Alphaville scored 2 more on RBI singles from Omar Vizquel and Corey Koskie. Avila answered with 2 more of their own in the 3rd inning with a 2-run blast from Alex Rodriguez. 3-3 after 3. Avila scored another run in the 4th when Jeff Frye doubled and scored on a base hit from Aaron Sele. Alphaville tied it up in the top of the 5th when Sweeney hit a solo home run. Avila edged ahead in the bottom of the 5th when Jim Edmonds doubled, moved to third on a Johnny Damon ground out, and scored on Chris Singleton's infield single. 5-4 Dragons after 5. The score would remain 5-4 Dragons heading into the top of the 9th. Keith Foulke was pitching for Avila, 3 outs away from advancing to their 2nd CDBL world series in 3 years. First batter up, Chad Kreuter, grounded out. Randy Velarde flied out for #2. The fate of the Cautions' season now rested on the bat of Omar Vizquel. Could Vizquel pull out some playoff heroics? It was not to be. Vizquel flied out to center field, ending the game. Avila wins game 5 by a score of 5-4 and advance to their 2nd CDBL world series in 3 years.
