2000 CDBL PLAYOFF PREVIEW Aaron/Paige Conference Finals Springfield Isotopes (113-49, Paige division winner) vs. Madison Muckrakers (107-55, AP Conference Wildcard, 4-0 over Arkham Investigators in Round 1) Springfield had a great year, winning 113 games, the Paige division pennant and the best record in the majors. Barry Bonds hit .318 with 58 home runs, 152 runs scored and 123 RBI. Miguel Tejada hit .292 with 30 home runs, 107 runs scored and 127 RBI. Mark Kotsay hit .348 with 113 runs scored. Mid-season acquisition Gary Sheffield hit .299 with 22 home runs, 67 runs scored and 52 RBI in 75 games, while acquisition Rafael Palmerio hit .314 with 14 home runs, 42 runs scored and 44 RBI in 52 games. Brian Bohanon went 15-8 with a 3.41 ERA, and Curt Schilling went 16-5 with a 4.05 ERA. Willie Blair won 16 games, and Brian Moehler went 15-3. Steve Karsay saved 25 games and won another 11 in relief, and Curt Leskanic and Mike Fetters combined for another 22 saves. Madison cruised to a 107 win season and a conference wildcard spot, then swept the Investigators in their round 1 matchup. In the bottom of the 2nd, with Manny Ramirez on base, Jeromy Burnitz went yard, putting the Muckrakers up 2-0. In the 4th, the Isotopes cut the lead to 1 with a sacrifice fly from Chris Widger. In the 5th, they tied it up at 2 with a 2 on, 2 out base hit from Gary Sheffield. In the 6th inning, Madison retook the lead with back to back home runs from Manny Ramirez and Jeromy Burnitz. In the 7th inning, the bases were loaded with Isotope batters with 2 outs and Rafael Palmeiro at the plate. Palmeiro had a big hit, smacking a double to drive in 2 runs to tie the game up at 4. In the 8th inning, with the game still tied at 4, Miguel Tejada smacked a base hit with runners at first and third, scoring a run to give Springfield a 5-4 lead. With 2 outs, Mark Kotsay broke the game open with a 3-run home run. Springfield scored 3 more runs in the 9th inning to put the game well out of reach. Springfield wins game 4 by a score of 11-4 and clinch this conference finals series to advance to their first ever CDBL world series.
