2000 CDBL PLAYOFF PREVIEW Round 1 Arkham Investigators (84-78, Aaron Division Champ) vs. Madison Muckrakers (107-55, AP Conference Wildcard) The Aaron division didn't feature the powerhouses that the other conferences had, and Arkham was able to win the division with just 84 wins. Ken Griffey Jr had a great year, hitting 54 home runs with 113 runs scored and 143 RBI. Derrek Lee hit 40 home runs with 92 runs scored and 107 RBI. Jorge Posada had a .401 on base average, 24 home runs, 94 runs scored and 85 RBI. Jose Valentin added 15 home runs and 94 runs scored. Kirk Rueter led the team with 15 wins. The Muckrakers battled the Isotopes for the Paige division pennant before settling for the AP conference wildcard. Manny Ramirez hit .376 with 49 home runs, 116 runs scored and 157 RBI. Andruw Jones hit 31 home runs with 148 runs scored and 107 RBI. Mark Grace had a .396 on base average and 122 runs scored, while catcher Ivan Rodriguez hit .322 with 25 home runs and 79 RBI. Rick Ankiel went 15-7 with a 3.41 ERA, and Eric Milton went 18-3 with a 3.51 ERA. Mike Sirtoka won 15, and Pedro Astacio won 17. Todd Jones saved 22 games with a 3.26 ERA. In this round 1 opening game, the Muckrakers wasted no time putting themselves on the board when Rickey Gutierrez got a lead-off walk, and Mark Grace smacked a 2-run home run. 2-0 Madison after 1. In the 4th inning, Mark Grace came through again, hitting an RBI base hit to score Mark McLemore from third. 3-0 Madison. Meanwhile, the Muckrakers pitchers were working on a shutout with the game 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 9th. Kerry Ligtenberg was pitching for Madison. First batter up, Wendell Magee, struck out. Dmitri Young grounded out for 2 outs. Andres Galarraga walked and moved to second in a wild pitch. In the bottom of the 3rd, Joe Vitiello hit a solo home run for the Investigators to close the lead to 1. The Muckrakers hitting barrage continued in the 4th, when Manny Ramirez hit a 2 RBI double, and Greg Zaun followed up with an RBI double for a 5-1 Madison game. In the bottom of the inning, the Investigators had a chance to put a bunch of runs on the board in a bases loaded situation, but could only muster a single run scored on a ground out from Mark Lewis. Madison would continue to score at will, adding 2 more in the 5th and another 4 along the way, racking up 15 hits and 11 walks on the day as they win game 2 by a score of 11-4.
